Position Description

General Description of Duties:

Inspect shipments, ensure the freight bill descriptions and applied NMF items are correct, and ensure that correct published tariff rate/charge is applied on the customer freight bill. Manage the Weighing and Research reweigh program, including the training of forklift operators and the maintaining of equipment to ensure a high rate of shipments reweighed.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Inspect shipments and provide complete and accurate documentation for proper corrections to freight bills
  • Check and maintain all Weighing and Research equipment
  • Train and educate terminal personnel concerning proper reweigh procedures
  • Communicate with Sales department and customers concerning the correct commodity descriptions for Bill of Ladings
  • Promote the Weighing and Research reweigh program at the local distribution center and assigned end of line terminals, and take action to ensure reweigh frequencies are at or above goals set by Weighing and Research Management
  • Maintain a positive attitude in a highly intense environment
  • Work in a team setting to accomplish department goals
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, preferred
  • Understanding of ABF Freight tariff rules and applications, as well as ABF Freight Pricing policies and procedures, preferred
  • Understanding of the NMFC Classifications and their rules and applications
  • Understanding of both Terminal and Linehaul operations
  • Understanding of scale operations (including wireless segment), and use of PDAs
  • Basic computer skills
  • Available to work shifts encompassing non-standard working hours and weekends
  • Must be detail oriented and enjoy a fast paced, multi-tasking, customer service minded environment
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications and organizational skills
  • Must display sense of urgency, ability to work under pressure, with attention to detail
