Over and Short Control Specialist

Currently, we are looking for a Over and Short Control Specialist to join the ABF Freight team. As a member, you will oversee the handling of all damaged and refused freight within the ABF Freight system.

Your contribution may include:
  • Monitor the service centers to ensure correct procedures for obtaining disposition for damage and refused freight are followed.
  • Provide guidance to service center personnel on how to handle challenging damage situations. 
  • Work with sales teams when issues arise with their accounts.
  • Coordinate special issues on damages with the various ArcBest Customer Support teams. 
  • Work with Load Compliance team and service center management when there are reoccurring packaging or damage issues with a specific amount.
  • Determine when an outside freight inspection is needed and handle any inspection issues that may arise.
  • Update special handling instructions for accounts.
  • Coordinate non-hazmat/hazmat disposals with the service centers, the Safety and Security Department, and our disposal company.
  • Notify maintenance and service centers of any water damage issues.
  • Issue the daily Freezable report during the winter months.
  • Proper filing of information, emails, and pictures provided from customers and the field.
  • Handle all phone calls dealing with damage issues where a claim has not already been filed.
  • Work in a team setting to accomplish department goals.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

As a Over and Short Control Specialist, you will be a member of the ABF Freight Cargo Claims and Preventions team in Fort Smith, AR. Your hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with irregular hours that may occur depending on work load.

Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferred.

Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and mainframe computer applications.

Other Requirements: Knowledgeable of ABF Freight procedures and policies and handling procedures of all damaged and refused freight according to the Cargo Claims and Prevention Manual. Knowledge of paperwork moving with the shipment, which service center to contact when requesting information, and the value of freight being handled. Knowledge of hazardous materials requirements, ATA Freight Claim Rules, Bill of Lading Contract, and the National Motor Freight Classification.
